Overview

SmartView Reporter, a part of the SmartCenter family of products, is a comprehensive reporting system. It enables managers at every level to make intelligent decisions by delivering in-depth network security activity and event information from Check Point VPN and firewall products. In addition, SmartView Reporter contains a large number of predefined reports, which eliminates the need to create custom reports, thereby saving administrative time and cost.

As part of Check Point’s SMART centralized management architecture, SmartView Reporter provides centralized, easy access to data from a single console. Flexible, Comprehensive Reporting

SmartView Reporter provides a rich set of predefined reports that save administrative time and cost by eliminating the need to create custom reports. These reports are organized into intuitive categories such as security, network, VPN, user activity, and system information. Users with more detailed or granular information needs can also use customizable filters to modify these reports to meet their specific requirements.

Security reports increase visibility for administrators to critical security issues, such as security attacks detected by SmartDefense™ — a centralized console that enables customers to configure network and application attack protections. This allows administrators to take proactive measures to protect networked assets. Network activity reports enable administrators to analyze the most popular activities or services on the network and to optimize bandwidth allocation. VPN reports allow analysis of various aspects of encrypted traffic focusing on a specific VPN tunnel or VPN community. System information reports show various aspects of system load and operational activity including CPU, memory, and disk space usage. User activity reports show how company employees and remote workers are using and accessing the network.

Each report is further sub-divided into sections, allowing administrators to drill down into more detail about a particular type of traffic or activity on the network. By adjusting the report filters, administrators can focus in on a specific issue, such as network activity of a particular user or communications between two specific sites.

Easy report Generation and Distribution

SmartView Reporter enables administrators to schedule regular reports without constant manual intervention. Report generation can be scheduled for a specified time each day, on certain days of the week or month, or at a particular future date.

Multiple schedules can be maintained, for maximum flexibility to meet the most demanding reporting needs. Administrators can also set up reports to be distributed automatically to specific users or to be uploaded to ftp or Web sites.
 

Automated Database Maintenance

As logs accumulate, administrators have to manually archive or delete older, less pertinent records from the database to provide space for new records and to optimize performance. To ease administrator workload, SmartView Reporter enables automatic archival or deletion of records based on high and low watermarks specified by administrators. In addition, it is possible to designate specific database tables for automatic maintenance and schedule when tasks will be completed.

SmartView Reporter provides powerful, enterprise class reporting performance. For example, reports based on 20 GB of logs can be generated in little over an hour; and consolidating up to 32 GB per day. SmartView Reporter supports a broad range of deployment options, including Windows and Solaris operating systems, and now supports Linux and Check Point SecurePlatform™.

Tight Integration with Check Point Products

As part of Check Point’s security management architecture (SMART), SmartView Reporter is tightly integrated with SmartCenter™, Check Point’s centralized management solution, and its security rulebase. This allows administrators granular control over the type of data they collect based on their company’s security policies. Reports on security rule usage, such as how frequently a particular rule is matched, close the feedback loop to allow administrators to fine-tune their security policy.

SmartView Reporter is available as an add-on to SmartCenter Enterprise and SmartCenter Pro, Check Point’s suite of management applications.
