Centralized Software Management

SmartUpdate is an optional module for VPN-1/FireWall-1 that automatically distributes software applications and updates for Check Point and OPSEC Certified products and manages product licenses. It provides a centralized means to guarantee that Internet security throughout the enterprise network is always up to date.

Centralized, Automated Software Distribution

SmartUpdate provides centralized software distribution for Check Point VPN-1, FireWall-1 and FloodGate-1 Modules and third-party, OPSEC partner products. From a single, central location security managers can install, upgrade and uninstall both major product versions and service packs, ensuring products are up-to-date and consistent across their entire security deployment. SmartUpdate automatically distributes security software updates to remote and locally installed products, eliminating the need to manage the update process one device at-a-time. Automation reduces the total cost of ownership by freeing up valuable human resources to perform other tasks. Automated software deployment also results in a more consistent security deployment.

Comprehensive View

SmartUpdate provides administrators with a comprehensive, central view of installed security products, product version information, and product license information. By tracking and managing this information for security managers, SmartUpdate simplifies asset management and improves managers' control over their security environment.

Centralized License Management

To provide greater flexibility in managing product licenses, Check Point Next Generation associates product licenses with the Management Server rather than the platform on which the product is installed. With this new licensing, security managers perform a number of license administration tasks with SmartUpdate, including: storing (and deleting) licenses in a licensing repository, attaching (and detaching) licenses to product Modules, viewing licenses, sorting licenses and checking for expired licenses. SmartUpdate's centralized, graphical license management delivers increased flexibility and simplifies license management.
